Repairing, repainting, refinishing and restoring brings new life to old furniture and antiques.  At Springhouse we can restore almost anything made from wood.

Our limited use of power tools enables the customer to own an heirloom quality piece. We can use reclaimed wood to ensure one-of-a-kind piece craftsmanship.

"You have to feel the wood with your hands to create the kind of piece that you want to use every day and pass down as

part of your family story.”

As a small boy, Paul began working with wood in his grandfather’s shop, using the primitive tools that were handed down from his great-grandfather, Homer Elias Laughlin.  “Here, do this”, his grandfather would say as he demonstrated the long push behind an ancient wood planing tool.   The idea was to keep the small boy occupied and out from underfoot as he built models for use in his carpentry class at the nearby federal prison, the job that brought the Laughlin family from Minnesota a couple of decades earlier.

It was in high school, where Paul’s teacher Bob Brown taught Paul the basic master-skills that he uses to build new furniture designs, reproductions and in the restoration or refinishing of neglected pieces.

"I use primitive tools when ever possible. Power tools make it difficult to build from the heart. You have to feel the wood with your hands to create the kind of piece that you'd want to use every day and pass down as part of your family story.”
